Resources for decolonising yoga, real inclusivity & body positivity.

Here at The Way of Yin we’re feeling the current climate is urgently calling for evolutionary steps to deconstruct systems of oppression. Whether that is systemic racism, ableism, homophobia, ecocide or white privilege. Any journey  towards the liberation of self involves clear seeing. Meeting reality as it is. Although we need to maintain our own wellbeing, it shouldn’t discourage us from being active in changing systems that cause harm. The balance between these two can take a while to figure out. Here we say ‘we like to disrupt the myth that yoga has to look a certain way’ which means we advocate for real inclusivity, body positivity and access for all types of people. This means understanding how dominant societal structures generate systemic trauma through processes of ingrained prejudice, bias and marginalisation.  Becoming aware of not only how we may be unknowingly complicit, but also how we may be suffering from it.  These resources are a work in progress, updated when we find more interesting things to consider. We are still learning and  so we are open to constructive  feedback on how we can be genuinely more inclusive , contributing to equity, healing and respect for all beings.

‘If we examine our motivations and find they are  rooted in understanding, compassion and altruism, then our practice is not only compatible with our activism, it fortifies it.’ Manoj Dias
